Domestic Day Camp- Rag Quilts

Today was the last of our summer Domestic Day Camps. This lesson was Rag Quilting. This is the easiest, most forgiving project. It is perfect for beginners.

Here is a tutorial I put up last year about Rag Quilting.

This is the perfect time to get started on Christmas gifts!

My husband just recently discarded a bunch of old jeans, and I was wanting to make a denim rag quilt. I know I've seen them before, but had no idea how to do it. Your tutorial was perfect! And with denim, I think just one layer of fabric will be sufficient, don't you?

Jeans are great for this! In fact, I am almost done with one that has jeans on one side and flannel on the other, with no batting. I will post a picture in a day or so.

Just one layer of jeans would work good too!

I want to do one of those for my king size bed...can you help me figure out how many squares/how large I would need to make it?? I can't afford a comforter right now, but I can afford several yards of fabric and some batting...would it be crazy to make one that big??

The measurements for a king size are 100x92. So you would probably need to add another yard and a half to the width and length. I would say you need 9-10 yards for the front and 9-10 yards for the back. You're talking about $50-60 for flannel. Unless you find a really good deal, like sheets at a thrift store or something like that, or you could use fabric and clothing you already have.

Oh, so will it only work with flannel and not regular cotton fabrics?

Cotton works great, really anything works!
