Today was our first Herb Class. One of our teachers was not feeling well so Olivia had the class to teach for herself. In my humble opinion as her mother (OK, hear a little pride puffing up), I must say I think she did a great job. She has had plenty of experience with public speaking, giving 5-8 minute speeches, but not necessarily 'teaching' a room full of people for 3 hours.
I guess it helps that she has studied herbs for 2-3 years and has a prosperous herb garden of her own.
I know this is a bad picture...I'll hear about it later. ;o)
For lunch she made an herb vinaigrette, salad, roasted tortilla chips, chicken kabobs, choc cheesecake garnished with mint. We also had herb butter with wheat rolls and crackers.
Each family had a set of herbs on their table to see, smell and identify.
Although this was a Domestics class we let boys come to this one since herb gardening is a pretty neutral skill.
We also played an identification game...be careful about playing with that Ferrill family, they are serious competitors! What a smart bunch! :o)
Each family went home with a pot of five different herbs.
THANK YOU to everyone that came and we look forward to hearing about your herb gardens and what you are making with them.

Hi Kathy,
We have so enjoyed your daughter's book on herbs. Anna, my 11 year old daughter, started her herb garden. Olivia's e-book helped encourage her on!
We would love to meet your family.....you wouldn't be going to Branson,MO to the Answers in Genesis conference with Doug Phillips and Vodie Baucham, would you? We will be attending from Virgina.
We also enjoy Olivia's blog too. Our good friend and former pastor, Lloyd Sprinkle(aka Sprinkle Publications), publishes quite a bit of confederate history and books from the reformation. Have you heard of him?
Again, thank you for all that you do and the encouragement....

Congrats to Olivia for a job well done!
If we lived closer, I'd have been there. I know zero about real herbs.
Blessings--
Dana
Thank you ladies!
Leslie,
I WISH we were going to that conference, sounds like a great line up! But we are on vacation in upstate New York right now and with gas prices, I think that this is our only trip this year! Thank you for your kinds words, I will pass them on to Olivia.
Many blessings to you!
Hi Kathy,
I DO understand about the gas prices! Maybe we will get to your neck of the woods sometime in the future to meet you. Our "adopted Grammie", Bettie Need, has family that live in your state. Her daughter, Jennie, is Matt Chancey's wife. Bettie said the trip is long to her home in WV. Alabama to Virginia would be just as l-o-n-g! :)
Our 14 year old son, Ben, is a lover of history. Any Confederate historical site has him interested in visiting that state. Alabama is on his list.
Virginia is also FULL of history. If you are ever in VA, please look us up too.
Enjoy your vacation with your family.
Fondly,
Leslie
